The U.S. Consul General in Istanbul Charles Hunter, who visited Balıkesir on August 13th and 14th, was presented with an opportunity to get closely acquainted with the historical, cultural and economic structure of the city. The Consul General paid courtesy calls to the Governor of Balıkesir Mustafa Yaman, the Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Edip Uğur and the Mayor of Ayvalık Rahmi Gençer. Consul General Hunter was briefed on the region’s trade potential at visits to Cargill Balıkesir, BEST Transformer Corp. and the Southern Marmara Federation of Industry and Business (GÜNMARSİFED). At Balıkesir University, Deputy Rector Prof. Yılmaz Arı introduced him to the academic programs offered by the university. Consul General Hunter also took a brief tour of the Moonlight Monastery at Cunda Island.
