Demonstration Alert: U.S. Embassy Ankara

Location:  Throughout Turkey  

Event:  Throughout the month of June, various events supporting LGBTQI+ rights are scheduled to take place, and some may draw large crowds.  Authorities could deem such gatherings as illegal demonstrations.  Any gathering or demonstration, even those intended to be peaceful, could escalate and turn confrontational.

Actions to Take:

  • Avoid areas around mass gatherings, protests, or demonstrations.
  • Be aware of your surroundings.
  • Avoid crowds.
  • Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.
  • Keep a low profile.
  • Monitor local media for updates.
