Demonstration at the old Sumberbank building in Konak, Izmir on Demcember 29, 2015

U.S. Embassy Ankara informs U.S. citizens that a demonstration is expected to take place at the old Sumerbank Building in Konak, Izmir at 12:00p.m. on Tuesday, December 29, 2015.  DISK (The Confederation of Revolutionary Trade Unions), KESK (The Confederation of Public Employees’ Trade Unions),and TMMOB (The Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects) will be gathering with the stated purpose of protesting against war policies. We anticipate possible large crowds to ‎attend. We urge American citizens to avoid the area around those times.

Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence. You should avoid areas of demonstrations, and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations.
