Memorial held for Mustafa Akarsu at the U.S. Embassy in Ankara

February 1, 2020, was the 7th anniversary of the tragic death of Mustafa Akarsu, beloved embassy security guard who died in a heinous terrorist attack against the U.S. Embassy on February 1, 2013. Today, February 3, his family, friends, and colleagues, together with U.S. Ambassador Satterfield, commemorated his life. The ceremony took place at the memorial garden built in Akarsu’s honor, the design of which was inspired by his last name (“flowing water”) to incorporate an ever-flowing fountain.
