Event: Türkiye’s national elections are scheduled to occur Sunday, May 14. If no presidential candidate secures more than 50 percent of the vote on May 14, there will be a run-off election on May 28. Political rallies and other large gatherings are common throughout Türkiye during the electoral period. As with all large gatherings, there is a risk that peaceful events can turn confrontational, and it is recommended that U.S. citizens avoid crowds, remain vigilant and aware of their surroundings, and regularly monitor trusted media sources for updates.
Actions to Take:
- Avoid areas of political rallies and other large gatherings.
- Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests.
- Keep a low profile.
