The interdisciplinary  workshop ‘Genetically-Based Immune Disorders’ was conducted  between October 15th-17th 2014 in TÜBİTAK, (the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey), with the support of TÜBİTAK, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases of the National Institute of Health within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services ( NIAID/NIH/HHS), and by the Jeffrey Modell Foundation.

Jim Turner, the US Embassy Economic Counselor of Ankara delivered opening remarks and provided information on the partnership between the USA and Turkey in the field of technology and science, and the support provided by the USA.

NIAID, Maryland; and Prof.Dr.Işıl Barlan from Marmara University, Istanbul also delivered remarks and shared with the participants the recent technological developments and their experience in the field.

The workshop aimed at enabling the exchange of findings obtained from the researches on genetically-linked human immune disorders and at enabling the participants to explore opportunities for future scientific collaboration. Participants included esteemed experts in the field both from Turkey and the United States including immunologists, clinicians, researchers, and trainees. The workshop has culminated with the development of follow-on plans and proposals, which will lead to concrete research cooperation and expansion of research capacity.
