Security Message for U.S. Citizens: Security Precautions in Wake of October 10th Explosions in Ankara

On the morning of October 10, 2015, around 10:00 AM, two explosions occurred at a large peace rally near Ankara’s central train station. The blasts caused a very high number of casualties, resulting in both deaths and injuries. Initial reports indicate that there were no foreigners injured and that foreigners were not targeted by the attack.

The U.S. Embassy in Ankara would like to remind U.S. citizens of the importance of maintaining security vigilance and to take appropriate steps to ensure their ongoing security awareness in light of these tragic events and the continued security situation in Turkey. U.S. citizens are reminded to exercise caution in the vicinity of large gatherings, as even peaceful gatherings can turn confrontational. Review your personal security plans, remain aware of your surroundings, including local events, and monitor local news stations for updates. Maintain a high level of vigilance, take appropriate steps to enhance your personal security, and follow instructions of local authorities.
