Security Message for U.S. Citizens: Demonstration in Adana, July 14, 2017

The U.S. Consulate in Adana informs U.S. citizens that the Anatolian Youth Union (AGD) has announced a demonstration in Adana at 6 p.m. on Friday, July 14, 2017.  AGD has announced that participants will gather at the Adana Asri Cemetery at 6 p.m. on July 14, 2017.  The demonstrators will then proceed eastward, travelling past the U.S. Consulate, and plan to rally at 7 p.m. at the entrance to Incirlik Air Force Base.  It is possible that this demonstration will take on an anti-American character. U.S. citizens should avoid these areas during the time of the planned protest.

On July 11, 2017, the U.S. Mission to Turkey issued a security message to U.S. citizens regarding this year’s commemoration of July 15 Democracy and Freedoms Day.  This security notice provides specific information on a related event planned in Adana.

Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence.  We advise U.S. citizens to avoid areas of demonstrations, and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations.
