Security Message for U.S. Citizens: Demonstration in Adana, September 16, 2017

Consulate of the United States of America

Adana, Turkey

September 15, 2017

The U.S. Consulate in Adana informs U.S. citizens a demonstration is expected to take place in the vicinity of Incirlik AFB on Ataturk Caddesi in Adana at 1300 on Saturday, September 16, 2017.  The Patriotic Party’s (Vatan Partisi) youth arm, Leading Youths (Oncu Genclik), will hold the demonstration to protest the establishment of a “terror state” in Iraq.  It is possible that this demonstration will take on an anti-American character. U.S. citizens should avoid this area during the time of the planned protest.

Even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence.  We advise U.S. citizens to avoid areas of demonstrations, and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations.

Please review your personal security plans, remain aware of your surroundings, and follow local law enforcement safety recommendations and local media for additional information.  We will provide updates as information comes available.
