Security Message for U.S. Citizens: U. S. Mission to Turkey Will Be Closed Today, December 20, 2016

On December 20th at 3:50 am, an individual approached the U.S. Embassy Ankara main gate and discharged a firearm. There have been no reported injuries and the individual is in police custody. Due to this incident, The U.S Embassy in Ankara, the U.S Consulate General in Istanbul, and the U.S. Consulate in Adana will be closed for normal operations on Tuesday, December 20th.
The U.S. Mission reminds U.S. citizens to review personal security plans, ensure communication connectivity, to remain aware of your surroundings, including local events, and to monitor local news for breaking events. Maintain a high level of vigilance and take appropriate steps to enhance your personal security.
