Special Envoy for the Human Rights of LGBTI Persons Randy Berry visited Turkey on September 11-16.

He met with government officials, business leaders, civil society representatives in Ankara and Istanbul to highlight the U.S. commitment to advancing and defending the human rights of LGBTI persons worldwide. Special Envoy Berry learned about the challenges facing Turkish LGBTI persons in Turkey, and also shared his insights on LGBTI issues.

In his remarks at a reception hosted by Consul General Charles Hunter, Berry said that the only thing that leads to fundamental change and progress is “to remain very focused on doing what we can to assist the civil society, local homegrown engagement.”
