U.S. Ally and NATO member Turkey answered our call for help with personal protective equipment early in the fight against COVID-19. Now, we are proud to return the gesture by responding to Turkey’s request and supporting Turkey’s wildfire suppression efforts. Through the U.S. European Command and in partnership with the Government of Turkey, the United States is in the process of deploying two water dropping CH-47 “Chinook” helicopters to help Turkey fight wildfires.
The United States understands the devastation of wildfires all too well, and we admire the courage of all those in Turkey working to put out the flames. Our contribution to this effort embodies American values and compassion abroad. As a continuation of the enduring U.S.-Turkey friendship, we stand with our NATO Ally.
