US Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz Participates in Atlantic Council’s 2014 Energy & Economic Summit

The Atlantic Council’s Sixth Energy & Economic Summit brought together the region’s energy and economy ministers, senior government officials and corporate opinion leaders in the field of energy from more than 40 countries in Istanbul on November 20-22, 2014. Participating in the Summit for the second consecutive year, the U.S. Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz first met with Turkey’s Minister of Energy Taner Yıldız at a bilateral breakfast meeting to discuss the U.S.-Turkish cooperation on global energy issues. After delivering keynote remarks at the Summit’s opening session, Secretary Moniz and his Turkish counterpart Minister Yıldız signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding on wind energy between their countries. Secretary Moniz also presided over an energy ministerial focused on energy infrastructure investment in today’s era of geopolitical and financial volatility, and the Summit ended with a special closing session addressed by the U.S. Vice President Joe Biden. Interviewed by CNN Turk and Hürriyet correspondents, Secretary Moniz discussed various impacts of current global crises on energy sources and production. During his stay in Istanbul, Secretary Moniz also visited Sakıp Sabancı Museum as guest of Güler Sabancı/Chairman & Managing Director of Sabancı Group and Prof. Nihat Berker/Rector of Sabancı University, and following his speech, he chatted with graduate students on energy management issues.
