Visit by Ambassador Nathan A. Sales, the Department of State’s Coordinator for Counterterrorism, to Turkey

On June 13, Ambassador Nathan A. Sales met with Turkish Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sedat Onal; Turkish Deputy Minister of Justice, Selahaddin Mentes; and with Senior Presidential Advisor, Dr. Gulnur Aybet. They discussed countering the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), global efforts to defeat al-Qa’ida and ISIS, the repatriation and prosecution of foreign terrorist fighters, border security and curtailing terrorist travel, and the fight against terrorist finance.  Ambassador Sales emphasized the strong counterterrorism cooperation between the United States and Turkey, and stated “the United States stands with our Turkish ally in combatting the threat of terrorism, including from the PKK, al-Qa’ida, and ISIS.
